Dragon Microgreens Ltd was formed in Sept 2019 after a years microgreen grow tests, research and development. Observing best practice organic and the most nutritious principles. Also known as Welsh Dragon Greens where we have our Facebook page. Now in our 2nd year we want to share this and expand the superfood that they are, as NutriWales Cluster Members.

 Microgreens are baby plants some only a few days old. Vertically Farmed in a Controlled Environment (CEA) to their Cotyledon stage which is when they have formed their very first leaves. This is actually the point where they are the most nutritious. Scientific data has proved that they are up to 40 times more nutritious than their adult vegetable. I bet you wonder how livestock thrive so well on cropped grasses, well it’s because they eat them at their cotyledon stage, in the majority.

 We have the fortune to be able to vertically farm our microgreens on our farm deep in the Brecon Beacons. Using fresh mountain spring water with organic compost and soils, plus plenty of love, to produce the tastiest and freshest microgreens available. We are Powys CC Food Hygeine certified, working with Aberystwyth University and BIC Innovation on CEA promotion in Wales.

 Microgreens can be grown indoors almost anywhere, year round, where the water is good and you can provide a stable controlled environment. It is perhaps the future, as many are saying, where urban vertical farms or CEA will be required to feed ever growing populations. The truth is, many a home can produce all the nutrition the family needs on one shelving unit with a tiny bit of labour and for far less cost than obtaining it anywhere else. That’s just Dragon sense!
