| West Orielton Farm is 140 hectares on the historic Angle Peninsula. We’ve got a Bronze Age round barrow cemetery on the land, an official Ancient Monument. We don’t grow potatoes on that bit! Having said that, potatoes are what we’ve specialised in since 1999. We’re also in Tir Gofal, (the Welsh Agricultural Environment scheme), and have given the local primary school a woodland area to play and learn in.
We’ve been in partnership with Puffin since 2000, started with cauliflowers then potatoes. Today I’m delighted to be producing local potatoes with a local company for local consumers. For me, Welsh farming is special because it’s still based on family farms, rooted in the rural community, supplying Welsh consumers with good natural food. I appreciate the ‘patchwork quilt’ effect of the Welsh countryside not just for its beauty but because it shows the different ways land is still used here. It’s great to see this close up on my bike at weekends, pedalling hard but taking it all in! |
