Glyndwr Vineyard is the oldest established and largest vineyard in Wales. Planted by the current owners in 1982, the estate comprises over 6,000 vines, grown on gently south-east facing slopes in the heart of the beautiful Vale of Glamorgan.

The bottle label depicts the Welsh prince, Owain Glyndwr, riding into battle with Carreg Cennen Castle in the background. The wines are evocative of that bold and romantic period of Welsh history.

With the experience of 30 years playing an important role in the current success and reputation of the vineyard, the owners have built up an extensive network of outlets throughout Wales, for example Waitrose, the Celtic Manor Resort, Glen-yr-Afon Hotel, and numerous family run delis from St David’s in Pembrokeshire to Wally’s in Cardiff. The vineyard produces two white wines, a rosé, a red and two vintage sparkling wines. The wines have graced many a fine occasion from European State banquets to the restaurant in the House of Lords.

Glyndwr Vineyard is particularly proud of its environmentally friendly surroundings, where chickens, ducks and wild pheasants roam, hedges are left to grow wild to encourage bird life and the vines are treated with organic material.

The vines are mostly grown on the traditional double Guyot system with some experimentation with Geneva Double Curtain. Vine varieties include Rondo, Regent, Madeline Angevine, Triomphe d’alsace and Seyval Blanc.

The adjoining lovely gardens have been open to the National Garden Scheme and there are ponds, woodland areas and orchards containing a number of old British apple trees which make Glyndwr’s own unique and delicious cider. Amongst the gardens is situated the pretty bed and breakfast.

Underneath the farmhouse is the cellar, where the wines are stored and quietly mature. The wines can be purchased direct from the cellars.

Please be sure to phone for an appointment prior to arrival if you wish to buy wines.

The Vineyard

Glyndwr Vineyard produces a range of fine, award-winning wines which have been carefully blended and fermented by their skilled winemaker for over a quarter of a century.

The current owners pioneered the revival of viticulture in Wales, establishing Glyndwr Vineyard in 1982, making it the oldest family estate in Wales.

Glyndwr wines have won many competitions and commendations from Decanter Magazine to the UK Vineyards Association Awards. The sparkling wines have been particularly successful with the Brut taking first prize in the renowned South West Vineyards Association competition. The red wine, judged by four Masters of Wine, was singled out for a double gold in the same competition, the first time this accolade had ever been awarded.
