My family have farmed at Upper Haythog since the mid 1940s. I don’t know where the name comes from or what it means, but it has a Viking feel to it, doesn’t it? We’re located in Spittal, right in the middle of Pembrokeshire. We’re not on the coast, but surrounded by woodland in the foothills of the Preseli mountains. It’s a wonderful place to be. We keep wildlife habitat going here and are rewarded with the regular sight of red kites, big, beautiful birds.

We’re a mixed farm on 155 hectares, some sheep, turkeys for the Christmas market, then corn and of course potatoes. We grow several varieties for Puffin including Estima, Maris Piper and Desiree. We’ve been with Puffin for over 30 years, since the mid-1970s, and enjoy working as part of such a dynamic team. There’s a mutual commitment and support — it’s what I call sustainable farming. Together, we really fly the flag for Welsh produce.

I love Wales for its scenery and the temperate climate. April’s my favourite month, sowing crops for the coming year, there’s a real sense of progress. The people of this area are special too, the characters and friendly personalities that make this such a wonderful place to live.
