We’re right up north in Velindre near Cardigan Bay — you can just see the sea from the fields. Velindre’s claim to fame is that the first Eistedfodd (festival of poetry and music) was held near here, back in 1176.

I’m the fourth generation at Rhydymaen Farm, in partnership here with my mother and brother. During harvest she’s extra busy, as all our pickers get a traditional Welsh farmhouse lunch every day!

It’s quite a big farm with 220 hectares mostly for dairy cattle, but we have 25 or so hectares for potatoes. We’re cooler than the south so we can’t grow early potatoes for Puffin, it’s Estima that does well here.

We’ve been part of the team at Puffin for three years or so and we’ve got a great working relationship. We get plenty of practical help and advice, for example on the scientific aspects of growing potatoes, and it always shows how we can change for the better.
