About

Hidden away near the south Pembrokeshire coast we’re living in the middle of a protected wildlife site; a classic slice of old farmland full of wildflowers and bird song.

As well as looking after the wildlife interest, we also farm a small herd of beef cows, pigs, horses and bees and harvest wildflower seed. Our ecological consultancy business, Matt Sutton Ecology, provides high quality survey, monitoring and conservation land management work.

Wild Meadow Seed
We’re able to harvest ripe seed from a couple of acres of our own meadows each year as well as those of some other fine local grasslands. We offer this for sale to local conservation organisations or individuals wishing to recreate their own wild meadows. If you need meadow seed for a project in west Wales please get in touch. Advance orders (before July) are more likely to be fulfilled.
We now have our own brush-harvester and hand-held seed harvester, and are able to offer a mobile seed collection service if you wish to harvest seed from your own meadows, wetlands or heathlands. Please contact us if you have a conservation project in west Wales that you’d like help with.

Matt Sutton Ecology
We supplement our farm income with off-farm ecological consultancy work across west Wales and beyond.
Matt Sutton Ecology was established in 2011 after Matt took voluntary redundancy from his job as Senior Conservation Officer with the Countryside Council for Wales in Pembrokeshire.

Our ecological consultancy provides:

A conservation land management ‘design and build’ service (in conjunction with specialist conservation contractor AJB Contracting)
High quality habitat or species surveys – including NVC, Phase I, extended Phase I and pre-development walk-over surveys (for wind turbines, hydro-power, solar farms etc.)

Code for Sustainable Homes ecological surveys.
Specialist vegetation or species monitoring
Ecological advice to landowners
